The brief
The Virtual Energy System was a world-first for the UK. A data-sharing infrastructure for interconnected digital twins of GB’s entire energy system, running in parallel to the physical system – it had never been done before. The challenge wasn’t building it. It was getting an industry of competing and complimentary interests to picture it, back it, and want to be a part of it.
The work
We ran stakeholder workshops to shape and pressure-test the positioning, aligning the messaging across a complex, multi-stakeholder audience before going public. From that, we developed the visual identity and messaging framework that turned an abstract technical concept into something the energy industry could envisage. The launch at COP gave the VES a global stage and a clear mission; this is the UK’s energy future – and it needs the whole industry to build it together.
The impact
A world-first initiative with the industry engagement to match. The VES launched with a coherent identity, a clear narrative and stakeholder advocacy from partners, business, tech and government; the foundations that an industry-wide programme needs that no technical document alone could create. Immediate and committed support from industry followed, setting the VES up in its role as a catalyst for industry collaboration and sector evolution.
